Non-Construction Volunteer Opportunities and Teams
Church Relations Team: Team members reach out to churches and
faith communities in order to build partnerships that will support Habitat through contributions, prayers, work groups, or provide food at the work sites. Monthly one hour meetings and
some liaison assignments with churches and communities of faith.
Family Selection Team: Reviewing and processing applications. In teams of two, conducting interviews with families to determine housing need and willingness to partner. Financial professionals needed to help with reviewing income information and credit history to determine ability to pay. Intense commitment (meetings every other week) during a three to four month time frame.
Family Support Team: Works with the Habitat partner families, monitoring sweat equity hours, helping them prepare for home ownership, including classes in home budgeting and home maintenance. Serves as the family’s liaison to all parties during the construction and beyond. Two year commitment with more intense involvement and interaction during the Habitat build.
Fund Development Team: Focuses on creating and implementing fund raising strategies to obtain donations from individuals, churches, the business community, writing grants, and conducting special events.
Regular meetings plus assignments as agreed upon.
Public Relations Team: Public relations includes promoting
Habitat’s work in the press, with community groups and to the
general public. Or help create promotion materials and contribute
articles or photographs to our newsletter. Regular meetings plus assignments as agreed upon.
Site Selection Team: Identify, assess, and
obtain donations of land from public and private sources including
all towns of Pope County. Regular meetings and liaison assignments with particular towns or private donors.
Construction Team: Develops and updates house
design and material specifications while keeping the house
affordable. Also deals with issues related to construction
management. Meets regularly with assignments as agreed upon.
Volunteer Relations Team: Help recruit and retain volunteers for all aspects of Habitat’s work; in close consultation with the construction supervisor for a project, also includes scheduling individuals or groups of volunteers from churches, businesses or civic organizations to participate in a Habitat build. Weekly commitment during the duration of a build.
Assist with special events: Help organize, publicize or set-up/break-down a special event geared to either fundraising, celebration or appreciation.
Site Host: Greet and register construction volunteers on the build site; make people feel welcome and provide a general orientation to Habitat; run errands for supplies or materials; promote awareness of Habitat activities, mission and goals. Regular commitments during a Habitat build to suit your schedule (i.e. one
Wednesday or Saturday a month).
Office Support: Bookkeeping, accounting, mortgages processing, data processing and acknowledgement of contributions. Regular commitment to suit your schedule: some tasks require a few hours per week, some a few hours every other week. Some work must be done in the office; other projects can be done at home at a time of your choosing.
Administrative: Includes organizational finance, budgeting, and accounting work as well as personnel, strategic planning and project management and/or build scheduling for a specific Habitat construction project.
